I have been an early childhood educator for over 20 years. When I became a mother, I turned my passion for working with children and my deep desire to stay home with my own kids, into a home-based nursery school called Big Trees. For 7 years our little school grew a flourishing community and held laughter, joy, and play through many seasons. Big Trees was one of my greatest adventures and I am honored to have walked with so many families through such a meaningful time of life.

Soy educadora infantil desde hace más de 20 años. Cuando me convertí en madre, convertí mi pasión por trabajar con niñes y mi profundo deseo de quedarme en casa con mis hijos, en una guardería de hogar llamada Big Trees. Durante 7 años, nuestra pequeña escuela hizo crecer una comunidad floreciente y mantuvo la risa, la alegría y el juego durante muchas temporadas. Big Trees fue una de mis mayores aventuras y me siento honrada de haber caminado con tantas familias a través de un momento tan significativo de mi vida.

Some of my most seminal teachers growing up were drip-sweet apricots on our tree and sticky sap that coated my toes when I climbed the pine trees in the back yard. I count the redwoods and night sky among my family and have lived amongst the oaks in Oakland, native Ohlone land, for over 20 years.

My driving purpose is to find the lever that shifts culture to one that recognizes and values the kinship and interdependence of all creatures (humans included). I studied Resource Ecology in grad school, ran a family camp called Mighty Earthling for 8 years and served as the Program Manager and teacher for Early Ecology Forest School for 6 years. I feel so honored and grateful to work with our small humans, to learn from and with them. Being with children in the forest is my greatest joy and I’m passionate about deepening our collective connection to Earth and advocating on Her behalf.

I have been an outdoor educator for the past seven years but I have been an educator for more than 15. I was born in a small village near Barcelona, Spain, called Vilafranca del Penedès, between the Mediterranean Sea and the Montserrat mountains. I speak Catalan, Spanish and English. Being a Catalan is a big part of my identity. I received my bachelor’s degree at the Autonomous University of Barcelona as an Elementary English specialist, then my master’s in Systemic Pedagogy at the Barcelona Gestalt Institute. I came to Oakland in 2013 to teach in a dual immersion Spanish/English public school. In 2016, I completed a teacher training with the Academy of Forest Kindergarten Teachers, and then became a part of Early Ecology Forest School where I had the most precious and transformative time as an educator and a human. I am also trained in non violent communication and I have a practice of mindfulness and personal development to deepen the awareness about the connection of the inner and outer cycles of life. My creativity and purpose come alive when I get to support children in their development while we ALL continue to deepen our collective connection to Mother Earth.

He sido maestra al aire libre durante los últimos siete años, pero he estado enseñando durante más de 15. Nací en un pequeño pueblo cerca de Barcelona, ​​España, llamado Vilafranca del Penedès, entre el mar Mediterráneo y las montañas de Montserrat. Hablo catalán, castellano e inglés. También estoy entrenada en comunicación no violenta y tengo una práctica de meditación y crecimiento personal para profundizar la conciencia sobre la conexión con los ciclos internos y externos de la vida. Mi creatividad y propósito cobran vida cuando puedo apoyar a les niñes y sus familias en su desarrollo mientras TODES continuamos profundizando nuestra conexión colectiva con la Madre Tierra.

I was born in Guadalajara Jalisco Mexico, but grew up on Ohlone land. I'm bilingual in Spanish and English and I have an Associates Degree in child development. I have been working with children for more than 20 years. I started by doing babysitting to becoming a preschool teacher. I have known Sara Hampton for more than 10 years. We worked in a home-base nursery school that her and I started called Big Trees Play School. I love having adventures with children and helping them thrive to their fullest. I believe having this great combination of the outdoors and letting children connect with nature will help the child thrive. I am thrilled to be a part of this new collective, and to continue to embrace the beautiful outdoors and help children discover their skills, abilities, and selves.

Nací en Guadalajara Jalisco México, pero crecí en tierra Ohlone. Soy bilingüe en español y tengo un título de asociado en desarrollo infantil. Llevo más de 20 años trabajando con niñes. Empecé haciendo de niñera hasta convertirme en maestra de preescolar. Conozco a Sara Hampton desde hace más de 10 años. Trabajábamos en una guardería en casa que ella y yo empezamos llamada Big Tress Play School. Me encanta tener aventuras con les niñes y ayudarles a prosperar al máximo. Creo que tener esta gran combinación de actividades al aire libre y dejar que les niñes se conecten con la Naturaleza ayudará a que les niñes puedan prosperar con todo su máximo potencial. Estoy emocionada de ser parte de este nuevo colectivo, y continuar abrazando el hermoso aire libre y ayudando a les niñes a convertirse y descubrir sus habilidades, capacidades y a sí mismes.

I come from a family of educators who nourished me with the love for art and nature since I was a little girl. Born and raised in the south of Spain, I studied Art History and Art Education and worked as a museum educator for 5 years facilitating programs for schools and families. During these years I developed a passion for early learning and decided to become an early childhood educator. After working in a preschool for 2 years I discovered Forest Schools and I felt that being outdoors with young children was exactly where I wanted to be. Some of my earliest memories are climbing trees and making mud puddles and nature is where I go to find peace and clarity. I strongly believe that being connected to the natural world makes us better human beings and I absolutely love providing young children with the time and space to deepen their connection with themselves, others and the world around them. 

Vengo de una familia de educadores que me nutrieron en mi el amor por el arte y la naturaleza desde pequeña. Nací y crecí en el sur de España, y estudié Historia del Arte y Educación artística y trabajé durante 5 años como educadora en museos facilitando programas para escuelas y familias. Durante estos años se desarrolló mi pasión por la educación infantil y decidí convertirme en educadora infantil. Tras trabajar 2 años en una escuela infantil descubrí las escuelas en el bosque y sentí que estar en la naturaleza con les niñes era exactamente donde quería estar. Algunos de mis primeros recuerdos son escalando árboles y jugando con el barro y es a la naturaleza a donde voy cuando necesito encontrar paz y claridad. Creo encarecidamente que estar en contacto con la naturaleza nos hace mejores seres humanos y me apasiona ofrecerles a les niñes tiempo y espacio para que ahonden sus relaciones con elles mismes, otros, y el mundo que les rodea. 

I am a trained Forest Kindergarten Teacher and have dedicated my teaching since 2014 to mentoring children in ecology and heart-centered ways at nature preschool and mindfulness programs in both the East Bay and Marin. I care deeply that my students find true belonging in nature, their communities, and themselves, and cultivate respect and empathy for the rich web of life including and beyond the human world. I adore being a part of children’s growing wonder in our beautiful world.

Soy maestra de jardín de infantes capacitada y he dedicado mi enseñanza desde 2014 a asesorar a niños en ecología y formas centradas en el corazón en programas de atención plena y preescolar en la naturaleza tanto en East Bay como en Marin. Me importa mucho que mis estudiantes encuentren un verdadero sentido de pertenencia en la naturaleza, sus comunidades y ellos mismos, y que cultiven el respeto y la empatía por la rica red de vida que incluye y va más allá del mundo humano. Adoro ser parte del creciente asombro de los niños por nuestro hermoso mundo.

I grew up in Oakland and spent my childhood climbing trees, camping and doing all sorts of sports. I taught kindergarten at St. Paul's School and Head-Royce School in Oakland for 30 years and another 10 years teaching K and 1st grade in Lafayette. In my spare time I hike, camp and have fun babysitting 2 grandkids.

Crecí en Oakland y pasé mi infancia trepando árboles, acampando y practicando todo tipo de deportes. Enseñé en el jardín de infantes en St. Paul's School y Head-Royce School en Oakland durante 30 años y otros 10 años enseñando jardín de infantes y primer grado en Lafayette. En mi tiempo libre hago caminatas, acampo y me divierto cuidando a mis dos nietos.

I have always been happy in the company of small children and learn at least as much from them as they do from me. 

I worked my way through college at the nursery school on campus, getting a B.A. in architecture at Washington University in St. Louis. I later earned a teaching credential from the Northern California Montessori Teacher Training Center in Mountain View, CA. I have had the joy of being the Director and a teacher at Garden Day Small School, a preschool in Berkeley, for the past 29 years.

I love getting to know children and being a part of a vibrant and caring community of young families.

Siempre me he sentido feliz en compañía de niños pequeños y he aprendido tanto de ellos como ellos de mí. Trabajé para pagar mis estudios universitarios en la guardería del campus y me licencié en arquitectura en la Universidad de Washington en St. Louis. Más tarde obtuve una credencial de docente del Centro de Capacitación de Docentes Montessori del Norte de California en Mountain View, California. He tenido la alegría de ser directora y maestra en Garden Day Small School, una escuela preescolar en Berkeley, durante los últimos 28 años. Me encanta conocer niños y ser parte de una comunidad vibrante y solidaria de familias jóvenes.

In our case, our two staff subs have 30 years of experience each and have been in community with us for even longer.
